Exterior Design Contest 2014 (Public Category) Gold Design Award Winner

Makino Bridge

The Makino Bridge, a project that we provided the landscape design for, was awarded the Exterior Design Contest 2014 (Public Category) Gold Design Award, which is given out by Sankyo Tateyama, Inc.

The Makino Bridge connects Takaoka City and Izumi City of Toyama Prefecture. It was constructed to alleviate traffic congestion on the Himeno-Nomachi Route, and to improve access to Shin-Takaoka Station with the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen Line.

Makino Bridge Balcony

A landscape review board was put together, and it was decided that the design should be in harmony with the surrounding landscape.

We utilized an impressive straw color for the beams, which matches the surrounding rural landscape and whose appearance changes along with the passage of the seasons. We imagined the main column after a local symbol, Futagami Mountain, and utilized aluminum casting for all five of the columns. Pedestrians can look forward to discovering a number of hidden features, including sheet copper insignias that pay tribute to local history, culture, and traditions, as well as an unobstructed view of the local scenery from the bridge balcony.
