Nhật Tân Bridge is a Japanese ODA project that spans the Red River and crosses the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi. It was built to alleviate traffic congestion in Hanoi City which has been getting worse in recent years and to revitalize the Hanoi metropolitan area economy. The total project cost was about 75.4 billion yen, and with a total length of 3,755 m it is the longest cable-stayed bridge in Southeast Asia. The main bridge section is a 1,500 m 6-span continuous composite steel 2-main girder cable-stayed bridge and the adjacent bridge sections are 1,580 m on the north side and 675 m on the south side. Nhật Tân Bridge is also called the Vietnam – Japan Friendship Bridge and it is a new symbol of Hanoi City.
